FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS LAMINATING?
The process of of bonding film to a substrate is called 'laminating'. Arrow Laminating Industries, Inc. offers different laminating processes available to our customers.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF LAMINATING?
Lamination adds protection against the environment, especially fingerprints and smudges, abrasions, wrinkles and tears, and other outside forces that may threaten the integrity of the printed piece, while providing a reflective or matte coating that improves the aesthetics of the printed piece.
DOES LAMINATION MAKE MY PRINTED PIECE LAST LONGER?
Unlike UV Coating, lamination applies a 'skin' on your printed artwork that prevents cracking and chipping on folded carton applications. Lamination not only enables a printed piece to last longer because of the added durability, it also adds strength to the piece and gives an impression of higher quality.
WILL LAMINATION PRESERVE THE COLOR OF MY PRINTED PIECE?
Although lamination enhances ink colors, it is not a preventative measure of UV rays, which can cause inks to fade. Like any printed piece, a laminated poster or point of purchase display graphic should be kept out of direct sunlight, and should not be placed in areas where UV or harsh lighting can eventually cause fading. Arrow Laminating, Inc. can provide UV inhibiting laminates.
IS LAMINATION EXPENSIVE?
The value-added benefits of lamination include visual and tactile appeal as well as longevity of your best impressions.
HOW LARGE A SHEET CAN YOU LAMINATE?
Here at Arrow Laminating Industries, Inc., we can laminate substrates 80"+ wide by virtually any length. However, this is with just one of our many laminating systems. Our high-speed 1-sided system with a perfector for thin-gauge films will laminate up to 41" x 41" sheets and our high-speed, 2-sided laminating systems for heavy-gauge films will laminate up to 30" x 48" sheets.
CAN YOU LAMINATE DIGITAL TONER/FUSER BASED PRINT?
Yes, however all printers and prints require their own special attention such as drying-curing time before and after the lamination process. Results can vary and certain prints or colors may not be compatible for lamination.
WHAT IS A MIL?
Mil is the caliper of thickness, measured in 1/1000ths of an inch, used for example in determining the thickness of a sheet. When we quote MIL, it is always 'per side'.
CAN ARROW DO SPOT LAMINATION?
No. Laminating film is on continuous rolls. We can establish a width of laminating film depending on paper width and stock, but we must run full length of the sheet.
CAN I USE AQUEOUS COATING ON SHEETS TO BE LAMINATED?
Yes! However, it must be a PRIMER AQUEOUS, free of wax or silicone.
WHAT IS A 'SEALED-EDGE' LAMINATION?
It is an extension of laminate bleeding off the edge of the paper. This encapsulates the paper and makes it impervious to liquids and gasses. It is often referred to as a 'lip', 'border', 'edge-seal' or 'encapsulation'.

MEET MIKE AND THE STAFF
Arrow founder and CEO Mike Barishman is no stranger to the printing industry. Having been a top sales rep for General Binding Corporation, Mike realized that there was a niche industry in providing lamination services, and only lamination services.
Mike's people skills enabled him to build a core group of artisans and technicians whose passion for excellent work launched Arrow from a 400 sq. foot start-up to a 14,000 sq. foot industrial complex where it remains today as the destination for commercial laminating services.
"Arrow has been at the forefront of the latest and greatest in laminating technology, and it's enabled us to deliver quality commercial jobs - within budget and on time". Mike further remarked, "We haven't forgotten who drives our business - the client, Our clients enjoy our signature attention to detail and open line of communication. It's key to our growth and our success."
You'll find Mike sitting at his desk, surrounded by rock memorabilia. There's nothing he enjoys more than meeting and servicing new and returning customers.
"Arrow under-promises and over delivers", added Mike, "and if we have a motto here, it's 'YES WE CAN!'
